Imagine
John Lennon
September 9, 1971
This short but classic poem to music is a direct invitation to
humanity to step above our squabblings and illusions of
self-importance that are based on metaphysical speculation. It is
the expression of a perspective that we can be more, we can do
better if we focus on the real world and try to work better with each
other now. While the exact meaning of poems is always subject to
debate, Lennon paints a joyous view of a world where people let
go of the entanglement between ideological metaphysics and
morality. Instead he leaves us with a better use for imagination:
dreaming how to make this world, ourselves, better.

Teach Your Children Well
written by Grahm Nash
performed by Crosby Stills Nash & Young
This song can be very inspiring for those who see education,
learning, and the sharing of experiences as some of the beautiful
moments of life. One thing the song emphasizes is that as we
teach, the learner should play an active role in selecting what they
learn. It also implies that learning is what relieves each
generation of their own hells, and that learning is a two way street,
with younger and older generations teaching each other. This
beautiful lyric lets young and old reflect upon the dreams in our
own lives, dreams for the future that we consider worth sharing.
